13/12 – 15:00
Cheshunt F.C 1 – 2 Wealdstone FC
ISUZU FA Trophy
Cheshunt F.C. faced off against Wealdstone F.C. in what proved to be a clutching match with chances for both teams to settle the 90 minute debate.
Wealdstone opened up the scoring with a goal from Hutchinson in the 50′ minute. Cheshunt marched on, continuing their stride to find the equaliser.
A freekick was given to Wealdstone F.C. not too long after their first goal, which saw the ball whipped in and headered in by McAvoy to double the advantage in the 59′ minute
Cheshunt F.C. had hit back with a vital goal from Effa in the 82′ but despite the team’s efforts, it wasn’t enough. The referee blew full time after 5 minutes of extra time.
Manager Mel Gwinnett shared his thoughts, “It’s like a League One side playing a Premiership team, you’re always going to be on the back foot a little bit. We could’ve come away with a 2-2 draw, and I always fancy us on penalties.”
He added, “It was a really good team effort, I can’t knock them”.
Back to the drawing board for Cheshunt F.C. as their next fixture returns back to the Isthmian Football League against Chichester City on Tuesday, 16th of December at 19:45.
