HARLOW MP Chris Vince, joined by Turkish Ministers and the Turkish ambassador for the UK, Osman Koray Ertaş came to the opening of the new Turkish school in Harlow.

The school is called Bülent Ecevit Türk Okulu and will open on Sundays at Longwood Primary Academy and Nursery School.
Chris Vince spoke at the opening ceremony reflecting on his background in education, as a secondary school maths teacher – speaking about the privilege of learning from his students, who were from different cultural backgrounds. “Those young people who I had taught, came from different cultures and heritages which enabled them to share some of their knowledge and some of their culture with me. My big ask to you, to the students who go to this school, who learn about Turkish culture, food and the language is to share that with the wider community of Harlow. “

Turkish ambassador, Osman Koray Ertaş pictured on the right – spoke about diversity in the UK being very valuable. “The ability to share different cultures and learn from each other is something that must be treasured.”
Also present was Latton Bush and Stewards councillor, Alasdair Gunn. Cllr Gunn said: “I was delighted to attend the official opening of the Bülent Ecevit Turkish School at Longwood Primary today.
“Harlow’s Turkish community has grown in recent years. Those with young families will welcome having this school available, once a week, on their doorstep instead of having to travel into London.
“It was interesting to hear about what the School will offer, helping younger generations remain connected with their heritage, language and history. I look forward to supporting this initiative over the years to come.”

Bülent Ecevit Turkish School President, Irfan Davulcular proposed that the school will have their first lessons begin on November 24th. It is open to the Harlow community to attend and those who are interested in learning not only the language, but the culture.
